There must be more than this provincial life…

“Little town, it’s a quiet village.

Ev’ry day like the one before…”

Well not exactly the same everyday, but it seems to feel that way a the moment.  I feel like I’m in limbo still, living in the village I was born in, working in the town I grew up in.  I’m doing extra hours as someone left and they’re yet to replace him, so that’s good because otherwise I would probably be spending my days off sitting in bed in my pajamas watching ER or Grey’s Anatomy and eating chocolate.  And frankly that’s not going to do anyone any good now is it?  Nope, better that I go to work, read books (in my lunch break), put stuff away, find books for people, chat too people and help children make things.  And it is a lovely job.  I like libraries, I like talking to people and helping out with things, but there’s only so much time you can spend living with your brother and his girlfriend before you feel like you are very much imposing.

‘Look there she goes that girl is strange, no question

Dazed and distracted, can’t you tell?

Never part of any crowd ’cause her head’s up on some cloud

No denying she’s a funny girl that El (sic)

Look there she goes that girl is so peculiar

I wonder if she’s feeling well

With a dreamy far off look, and her nose stuck in a book

What a puzzle to the rest of us is El (sic)

I want much more than this provincial life

I want adventure in the great wide somewhere,

I want it more than I can tell

And for once it might be grand to have someone understand…’

And so I’ve saved enough money with the help of my death money, tickets and insurance are booked, resignation handed in and in 5 weeks I’ll be heading to Thailand to start the first 7 weeks of a 7 month trip.   I’ve not exactly worked out the details, but the areas I hope to cover are here:

map of where I'm going

Which means that by the end of next year my map of the world should look a bit like this:

map of where I've been updated

And that’s a vast improvement going into my thirties.

So what I need from you is some tips and hints.  I’ve not got loads of money, I’ve not got loads of planning time and I need to get some ideas of good places to go.  I’ve signed up for CoachSurfing, particularly for the US, I’ve got an international discount card, I’m joining the YHA for additional savings.  Iv’e got my own snorkel.  But what more do I need to be looking into?

  2. My niece did a 15 month round the world trip and did some coach surfing and some stays with Workaway or Helpex (you work 4 – 6 hours for bed and full board) – we’ve even started having people stay with us and help on the land – have a look at the sites – it might help a bit if you plan to stay in one place for a while – good luck and have another fantastic trip. x
